When installing your printer via USB on MacOS, the system gives the printer a temporary name until it gathers information from the printer to assign the permanent printer name. You will see a driver installation window similar to the below:
If you click Finish at this stage, SPM will likely crash. This is because, in the background, this name has been automatically changed to reflect the actual printer name.
If you've already experienced this issue, a simple restart of SPM is all that is required. You'll likely need to choose your proper ink type when prompted, but everything will operate smoothly going forward.
If you have yet to experience this, the current workaround will be to simply wait for the printer name in the installation window to change to an appropriate printer name, as shown below:
You may then click Finish to complete the installation.
